The 112-emergency services number in the Region of Valencia has received 15,000 calls about animal welfare since January this year. More than half (54 percent) of calls were about abused, injured or abandoned pets. Other calls were concerned with protected species being trapped, injured or kept illegally or worrisome bee and wasp nests. The majority of the calls are passed to Seprona, the Guardia Civil’s specialist animal and environmental unit.
