Elche Court is to hear the trial of the skipper of a boat found 19 nautical miles from Torrevieja with illegal immigrants on board. The Prosecutor’s Office claims the man was transporting 13 people from the Algeria for a fee of between 1,000 and 2,000 euros. Prosecutors claim that the trip endangered lives due to the deplorable state of the vessel and lack of safety measures and is requesting a 6-year prison sentence for the defendant.
