Pilar Cultural Centre Fiasco

The Town Hall of Pilar de la Horadada is to demolish the unfinished Cultural Centre that has stood abandoned since 2006. However, the decision has caused controversy after it was announced that it is going to cost 3 million euros to demolish a structure that cost 2 million to build. The building stands on the northern edge of Pilar town centre and is referred to locally as ‘the shame of the town’. The building reached national notoriety as an example of mass overspending by Spanish councils during the boom period in the first decade of the century.
