Crevillente Sweatshop

The 42-yer-old boss of a Crevillente factory has been arrested for worker exploitation. Workers were made to carry bales of clothes weighing 80 kilos on their backs. They were underpaid at just 200e a week, for long days without breaks – and as they did not speak Spanish, did not understand their rights. The owner had no contracts, work permits or insurance for the workers and refused to pay them if they were unable to work due to work-related injuries.
