An increase in the mortality rate in 2022 has been reported by the National Institute of Statistics. In the province of Alicante the most deaths were recorded from 25th to 31st January, in which there were 450, in the midst of the sixth wave of the coronavirus pandemic. There was also a high number of deaths from 19th to 25th July, during the record-breaking temperatures of the summer heatwaves, with 421 deaths.
