Orihuela and Torrevieja plan to declare low emission zones in 2023. The law will establish the zones in order to improve air quality and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. The national law obliges municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants to have these restricted areas and in the Vega Baja, only Orihuela and Torrevieja fall into this category. The local laws will determine the urban areas where the reduction of emissions will be applied and traffic restricted.
