A village in southern Valencia province has handed out free legs of Serrano ham to all its residents ‘to combat the effects of inflation’. Beniflà, midway between Oliva and Gandia is home to just 463 people, who will all benefit from the 10,000 euros gift. Serrano ham is a luxury food item eaten at the Christmas Eve family dinner, but a full leg of Serrano ham can cost upwards of €100, so the town mayor is giving away one per household.
