As of 2015, half of Aragon’s population, 50.45%, live in the capital city of Zaragoza. Huesca is the only other city in the region with a population greater than 50,000.
The majority of Aragonese citizens, 71.8%, live in the province of Zaragoza. 17.1% live in the province of Huesca, and 11.1% in the province of Teruel. The population density of the region is the second lowest in Spain after Castilla-La Mancha: only 26.8/km2. The most densely populated areas are around the valley of the river Ebro, particularly around Zaragoza, and in the Pyrenean foothills, while the areas with the fewest inhabitants tend to be those that are higher up in the Pyrenean mountains, and in most of the southern province of Teruel.
Only four cities have a population of more than 20,000: Zaragoza 700,000, Huesca 50,000, Teruel 35,000, and Calatayud 20,000.
